Milena Dimitrova-Koidzumi
Between places.
Finding connections.

I’m Milena Dimitrova-Koidzumi, a Bulgarian architect and multidisciplinary artist based in Tokyo, Japan.
I grew up in Kazanlak, surrounded by buildings that carried the memory of another time. Behind weathered façades and broken windows, I could still see generous rooms, tall doors and ornamental details. That contrast between fragility and beauty made me curious about the lives held within a space.
Art was part of that landscape too. The work of Ivan Milev, decorative patterns and the creative history of my hometown helped form an interest that reaches beyond architecture into drawing and making.
In Japan, I found another way of relating to place. Traditional houses, quiet gardens and tea rooms introduced a sense of harmony and restraint. The care given to architectural heritage inspired me to study architecture here.
My work continues to move between these experiences. Architecture is a connection between history, culture, people and the generations who come before and after us.
